NEMP-Hardening / TEMPEST

Nuclear explosions produce (apart from other effects) nuclear electromagnetic pulses with a very short rise time. During potential exo-atmospheric explosions only that pulse type would be relevant at the surface of the earth. But this pulse would cover large regions because of the extreme height of its source. Its special characteristic might cause not only jamming of electronic systems but it might also cause damage of components and equipment. Especially military systems have to be protected against such environmental conditions.

In parallel to the technological progress of information technology and computing devices, unallowed and uncontrolled access of third parties to data and information or their wilful distruction becomes an high priority issue for civil as well as for military facilities.
